29 Years Ago Today - The Valentines Day Massacre
Oldham Athletic 6-0 West Ham United

Remember it like it was yesterday. Pissing down with rain, muddy car park, freezing cold.

I remember after every goal went in loads of people turning and chucking coins at the scoreboard (which was just light bulbs). Could barely tell the score by the end.

I also remember my brother catching one of the warm up balls and sticking it up his jumper, and selling it for 50 quid the next day.

Other than the Play-Off final vs Palace, definitley my lowest moment as a West Ham fan.

Just before the 5th one went in, many had taken to chucking coins at the bulbs in the scoreboard. Was a shit night for sure, remember going back up there soon after, only to be thrashed again.

And it was Dev's last as well I think. Awful way for two Legends to bow out.

In an attempt to balance my emotional commitments to wife and team I treated the lucky lady to an Indian meal with me and the commentary on a pocket radio. It was not the most romantic evening.

Yup, I was there. Frankie Bunn, Andy Richie, plastic pitch. Bloke in the seats doing a naked Hokey Cokey...

I prefer to remember the 1981 St Valentines day massacre when we beat Chelsea 4-0. Sir Trev scored 2 that day one a sublime chip over their keeper Petar Borata who applauded the goal.

If i remember rightly the gates were closed an hour before kick off with an estimated 10K locked out.

Was also lucky enough to witness another St Valentines day massacre at Grimsby :o(

Zico - Never knew that.

29 years on and we are still putting in disgraceful cup performances. This club will never change regardless of how many the shithole holds.

I remember when it was 4 or 5 nil and Martin Allen who was in the seats to our right shouting at us drenched souls to get behind the team LOL

Yup was there... on par with the Mother's Day massacre over the Den .... stupid thing is we won the 2nd leg 3-0 and could and should have scored 7 that day...

My mate slipped down a muddy bank twice that day,I remember on the way back a double decker bus of Hammers had been thieving at a service station, the police were at the bottom of the stairs and they threw a headless teddy bear down the staircase and threatened to kill all the hostages, even the Old a Bill were pissing themselves laughing,it was a horrendous result but a great day out nonetheless.

The return leg was surreal. If Julian's shot hadn't crashed off the bar at 3-0 I think we'd have turned it round. The team was a world apart then (with our brand new bouncing Czech signing in goal).

I was so up for this game convinced my first Wembley final was just around the corner . As others said pissing down and freezing cold and I missed the kick off as went up on the special and it sat in Manchester for about an hour for no apparent reason.
went to the league game same season which we lost three nil and if anything were worse , got a point on my third visit though when they got a very dubious penalty to equalise.

The ball certainly had an odd bounce off that pitch when it was wet, and there was no shortage of water on that day.

Re: 29 Years Ago Today - The Valentines Day Massacre
Its weird what sticks in your mind from football matches when the third or fourth goal went in there were some properly pissed blokes standing by us and one of them decided to launch the can of lager he was holding back over his head .
IT was obviously going to hit fellow west ham fans so one disgusted bloke came storming down the terrace and proceeded to absolutely batter the can thrower with his golf umbrella which was about amusing as it got that night !

Remember Lou Macari opted to play a defensive lineup for first leg damage limitation!
Think Slater was the only attacking player in the team!

Let’s not forgot the recent Valentine’s Day massacare at The Hawthorns

I remember 4 years ago today, West Brom 4 - 0 West Ham.
That was painful to watch!
